My fish died today – had it for 1 year and 8 months!! My question is I don’t know how it died?? The body was inflamed – by inflamed I mean the scales were coming out of it’s body and the body was swollen…my fish couldn’t eat cause the mouth wouldn’t close and it stood in an upright position….It wouldn’t move a lot either and when it went up for air and such it took a long time to get up there. After it got air it quickly sunk by down and continued to stand in an upright position….The morning I found it lying on the rocks at the bottom of the tank….
Don’t fish float when they die?? What the hell happened to my fish?? Disease?? I don’t understand it?? ARGH!!
Your fish died from a serious internal bacterial infection. When it began to act strangely, swim differently and not eat were the signs it was getting sick.
Sorry you lost your fish

dont worry this happens to the best of us, its simply has been beaten up by other fish & got stressed & just decided it was done with life, or is has tetris amonia desiese, it cause scales to point outward & fish to slowling die, causing the fish not to float when death occours. to treat this just clean your tank & put Ammonia Remover in it & water conditioner, Then you should be a proud owner of a betta for a good 3 years.

it may have been because of the water temperature.
Betta fish come from very hot countries such as thailand so they are adapted to a temperature of over 78 degrees F.
If the water is too cold for them, they become increasingly slow and loose their energy.
if you get another betta, it will eb best to have a heater put into the tank or put the tank in the sunlight or under a lamp.

with your fish at the bottom of it’s tank, it probably died and then floated, and eventually, all the gasses escape from the body. Then it stinks. When my goldfish died, it died at night, and I didn’t catch it ’till morning so it sunk.

First off Im sorry to hear about your fish,
I have a feeling that your Betta fish possibly had Dropsy.
Symptoms – body swelling, pineconing scales, lethargy, color loss, loss of appetite
