What kind of disease does my beta fish have?

He sits at the top of the tank lopsided (with his butt towards the bottom) and he just sits there all day. He only eats a little bit. What type of disease oes he have?

I don’t think your beta has a disease. If those are his only symptoms, then your beta’s just being a beta.

Betas naturally have small stomachs so, how little is a little? I used to feed mine 3-5 pieces of beta food twice a day, and he was completely content with that for the year that he lived.

And sitting at the top of the tank (as long as his head is closer to the surface) is another natural behavior. Beta fish are labyrinth breathers, meaning that while they can extract oxygen from the water as other fish do, they also breathe directly from the air too.

Hope I could help.

    the negligent owner disease…

it is curable.. .if you care enough..

    Step 1.
Get your water tested. Petco and Petsmart will test if for free and it’s instant results.

Most likely your answers will come from the water parameters. Talk to a knowledgeable associate and have them explain basic care.

    Step 2.
Water changes… once weekly at least. Use dechlorinated water.. just because the water is ‘clear’ does not mean it’s clean. Where do you think his piss and shit goes???

Adding LIVE plants will help keep the water quality good, as they will consume some of his waste and also dispel oxygen into the water.

    Step 3.
Feeding- light feedings every other day are more than enough to sustain a betta- their food is formulated and condensed -3 pellets is more than enough in a feeding
